THE FIFTH SOCRATES CAFE IN TUZLA: VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

"Every second woman is a victim of some form of gender-based violence in B&H," said Dr. Amra Delić, a specialist in neuropsychiatry and psychotherapist from the Blue Polyclinic Tuzla. She facilitated the Fifth Socrates Cafe held in Tuzla on December 11, 2019, and the topic was ''Violence against women''. Participants tried to define violence and questioned its key causes. They identified that some of them undoubtedly are gender inequality, inappropriate nurture and toxic masculinity. It is necessary to keep in mind that violence is not an act of short duration, but that it has long-lasting consequences.

The problem with our society is not reporting or responding inappropriately to violence. It is important to be aware of what the community can do and what it does not do to help victims get out of the violence scheme. It is not inevitable that violence breeds violence. There are mechanisms for the protection of victims and prevention of violence, and in order to be able to do this, we need appropriate and continuous education on gender equality, positive masculinity and paternity through the education system, and furthermore getting information on the law, rights and institutions that protect both women and families from violence.
